‘Farm to Fork’ - The Journey of Your Food.
Dempsey Corner Orchards has a fun and educational school tour you’re going to love.
Not exactly sure how to change a glass of milk, into butter or a bowl of ice cream?...Its okay, we can fix that!
Do you really know how grain becomes bread?...We’ll show you! and let you join in on the fun!
Ever wondered what can you eat if you’re lost in the woods?...Lots of Stuff! And it tastes GREAT!
What is honey really?...We’ll tell you the truth. Then we’ll let you try some! Everyone gets a chance to plant some grain in our grain field, then take that same grain and grind it into flour, add a few ingredients and make their own bun. We’ll bake it in our oven and serve them their very own bun, still warm and lovely!
While it’s baking, they’ll make the butter that goes on top! We’ll start with real milk and show everyone how it can be separated into milk and cream. Then we’ll take cream and the kids can try their hand at churning it into REAL BUTTER! Or whipping it into REAL WHIPPED CREAM and best of all, they’ll make FRESH, FROZEN ICE-CREAM!! If we’re quiet we might see a hen lay her egg. You can write your name in the shell with your fingernail if it’s still warm? We’ll take the egg apart and talk about why it’s special.
We’ll take a walk through the herb garden and see how many smells we can recognize and finish off at the pond where we’ll take a look inside a bee hive, feed the fish and see what nature has available that we can eat.
Who says you shouldn’t play with your food!
Our full day tour is only $5.50 per student. Moms, dads and teachers get to play for free.
